On August 25, 2011, the Valley Industrial Association (VIA) held their Annual General Membership breakfast to kick-off of the 2011-2012 program year. The VIA has multiple subgroups including: Valley Human Resources Association, CFO Council, Safety Association, IT Council, Marketing in Action Group, Operations in Manufacturing Group, Velocity: Women Moving Women Forward, and Engineering Group. On September 7, 2011, Kevin Bass, Account Executive at Sterling Engineering, attended the first Marketing in Action (MIA) meeting at the Valley Industrial Association’s office. With almost 40 attendees, Andy Kindler of Corporate Strategies & Solutions, Inc., presented to the group on how to “Grow Your Business by Having the Focus of a Hunter.” The morning was filled with discussion, mentoring, and networking. Marketing in Action Group (MIA) brings together Marketing & Sales Professionals to hear from professional speakers, discuss challenges, success, new products, and ideas that work. Membership is open to those who are actively engaged in marketing & sales of companies who are members of the VIA. The marketing group meets every first Monday of the month from September to May.
On September 14, 2011, the Valley Human Resource Association (VHRA) kicked-off the 2011-2012 program year with great success. VHRA was joined by the Valley Industrial Associations Safety Group (VISA) to hear about the recent legislative changes passed dealing with workers compensation, presented by Anita Johnson from Smith Amundsen LLC. The meeting was sponsored by Dreyer Advocate Occupational Health. The Valley Human Resource Association brings together professionals from diverse industries whose career interest and/or responsibilities involve HR Management. Membership is open to those who are actively engaged in the HR profession. The group meets every second Wednesday of the month from September to May. On September 21, 2011, Sterling Engineering participated and was a hole sponsor, for the Valley Industrial Associations Annual Golf Outing at Prairie Landing Golf Course in West Chicago. Over 120 golfers attended the event. Golfers were welcomed by Otis Wilson of the 1985 Chicago Bears. The attendees had an opportunity to beat Otis Wilson in a long-drive competition. All contest proceeds, which totaled $900, went to the Otis Wilson Foundation, which helps with after school activities for Chicago youth.
