In this month’s issue of Diplomatic Courier, Mayor Rahm Emanuel discussed how Chicago’s sister city relationships are a part of making Chicago a major global city and a center for competitiveness, economic and cultural opportunity and diversity. As part of that initiative, the Galway Committee / Chicago Sister Cities International celebrated its sister city relationship with Galway, Ireland at the16th Annual Oyster Festival of Racing. Sterling CEO, Dolores Connolly, is a Galway Committee member and was one of the table sponsors at this year’s Oysterfest. Attending the event were Sterling employees Ron Sandy, Kevin Bass, JD Stitt, Jenny Pesek and Jamie Grenke.
Since 1997, Galway and Chicago have developed a longstanding sister city relationship based on a shared vision of promoting culture, arts, business and education. Proceeds from this year’s event will support the Circle of Life National Organ Donor Commemorative Garden in Galway, Ireland. The garden will be a reminder and a thank you for the generosity of the over 2,200 people in Ireland who have given the gift of life through organ donation.
