Sterling is proud to support Rexam’s “CANS FOR CASH” 2014 initiative again this year.

“Collecting cans at the office was easy and something everyone could participate in.  Helping reduce our carbon footprint and support The Ronald McDonald House, a beneficiary of Rexam’s initiative, had a broad appeal within the Elmhurst office,” noted Deshanna Crockett.  Deshanna is a member of Sterling’s in-house Philanthropic committee.   “Our committee reviews may requests and suggestions to participate in charitable events throughout the year.  While we would love to participate in all the requests we get, we are limited so we choose ones that appeal to as broad a group as possible.”

photo 1Rexam’s can recycling works on many levels. Can recycling is quick & efficient, returning cans to store shelves in as little as 60 days!  Aluminum beverage cans are 100% recyclable, over and over again.

DID YOU KNOW?  Your TV can run for 3 hours or your iPhone for 5.5 hours from the energy saved in recycling just 1 can!  Nearly 75% of all aluminum produced is still in use today and new cans produced with recycled aluminum reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 95%.  Recycling aluminum uses 97% less water than producing new metal from bauxite.

GOOD FOR THE ECONOMY, GOOD FOR ILLINOIS:  According to Rexam, metal can packaging supports local economies.  In Illinois alone, manufacturers of metal cans employ more than 2,500 people and generate approximately 12,000 jobs in supplier and ancillary industries.  They are responsible for as much as $4.24 billion in total economic activity- a significant contribution to the GDP of our state.
