Dress for Success Clothing Drive

Last week’s professional clothing drive at Sterling was a huge success with employees donating new and gently used interview appropriate clothes for both men and women.

The clothing drive was the inspiration of Sterling’s Philanthropy Chair, Wendy Whelton, “As soon as I suggested the clothing drive we all agreed this was a perfect fit for our 3rd Quarter initiative. As recruiters we are keenly aware how important first impressions are during the interview process.  Experts say that it takes only four to six seconds to make that first impression and many interview rejections can be based on appearance and grooming, If you don’t take your appearance seriously an employer may decide you won’t take your work seriously either.”

Dressing for success can be expensive, particularly for someone who is unemployed and on a limited budget.  The Philanthropy Group did some research and identified two local programs offering assistance both in dressing and preparing candidates for interviews. Both groups work closely with the unemployed helping them prepare for the interview and guiding them with style and color selections so they fell and look their best in the first few weeks of employment.   When you look good you feel more confident is true.

After a week-long collection at Sterling the clothes were packed into cars and donated on Saturday to these two charities;
