Calibration Coordination Program and Metrology Lab Equipment

Project Snapshot

Sterling Engineering assisted a top 10 pharmaceutical client in creating a Metrology Laboratory and Calibration Coordination/Concierge Program. The project would allow the client to bring calibration services that were being purchased from another company in-house.

To do this, a state-of-the-art Metrology Lab, with calibration standards for thousands of instruments in the company, had to be constructed and equipped. In addition to the Metrology Lab creation, a Calibration Coordination Program was set up for the R&D portion of the company. The completed project provided the client with more control over their Calibration Program in addition to cost reductions.

Project Challenges

Metrology and Calibration science and business processes are a unique part of regulated industries. Finding this type of expertise can be difficult.
Guidance regarding calibration requirements/methods, out of tolerance analysis, calibration audits, and training requirements was also provided to support the program.
Throughout the multi-year Metrology Lab project, Sterling engineers with calibration equipment expertise worked to specify, purchase, install and validate the new equipment for the lab. In addition, Sterling brought in experts on calibration procedures and processes to provide the documents for the program.

During the start-up of the Calibration Coordination/Concierge Program, Sterling provided 15 calibration technicians to inventory thousands of lab assets that were not in the system.

Guidance regarding calibration requirements/methods, out of tolerance analysis, calibration audits, and training requirements was also provided to support the program.
