In an exciting development, Sterling Engineering has proudly announced the appointment of Joseph Alani as Utilities Section Manager. With a rich background spanning various facets of engineering, Joseph brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.

Before joining Sterling Engineering, Joseph Alani served in several key positions, each contributing to his extensive knowledge and skills in the field. Notably, he began his career in engineering by delving into materials testing, quality assurance/control, geotechnical reports, and environmental audits. This foundational experience laid the groundwork for his subsequent desire to venture into engineering design. Joseph’s journey later took him through roles of increasing responsibility, including Project Manager and Gas Distribution Manager at a DBE (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) firm. Here, he oversaw a diverse team of licensed engineers, designers, drafters, and surveyors, managing and working on projects for renowned clients such as Peoples Gas, Consumers Energy, North Shore Gas, and Nicor Gas.

His tenure at the DBE firm was marked by notable achievements, including overseeing 200+ PE-stamped and sealed plan sets and designing 150+ miles of gas distribution pipeline. This impressive track record underscores his proficiency in delivering high-quality, impactful solutions within the utilities sector. Furthermore, Joseph’s expertise extends beyond traditional gas-utilities design work. His experience includes previously managing capital infrastructure projects in-house at Peoples Gas while also venturing into telecom/utility design, where he played a crucial role in fiber and power routing for clients like Verizon, Everstream, T-Mobile, Sunyses, AT&T, ComEd, Comcast, among others.

A testament to his dedication to professional excellence, Joseph Alani holds Professional Engineering licensure in both Illinois and Michigan. His academic background includes a degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Kansas, providing him with a solid foundation for his multifaceted career in engineering. In his new role as Sterling Engineering’s Utilities Section Manager, Joseph is poised to leverage his diverse skill set and extensive experience to drive innovation and excellence in utility infrastructure projects. His appointment reflects Sterling Engineering’s commitment to delivering top-tier engineering solutions and signifies a significant step forward for the company.
